Club news : The Final of the 2024 Portishead Chess Club Championship has finally been completed, Andrew winning 1.5 - 0.5 against Edward in a closely contested final.
In the first game Andrew played the Philidor Defence and gave up a pawn to damage Edward's pawn structure, which eventually proved sufficient to draw the game.
In the second game Andrew played his favourite Colle-Zukertort opening, won a pawn in the middle game and converted the material advantage to a winning endgame despite strong resistance from Edward.
So congratulations to Andrew in becoming the club’s first ever Champion!
