Junior Chess

Never too young!

Despite the presence of online gaming, over the board chess has never been more popular among young people. It has been shown to improve concentration, calculation, planning and resilience beyond the game itself. So impressive are the advantages in playing chess that several countries, including Spain, have now made it part of the compulsory school curriculum.

Portishead Chess Club has always attracted a large number of young players and now has it's own Junior Club meeting from 6pm to 7pm each Friday! There are only two chess clubs in the South-West (12 nationally) that have been accepted onto the ECF Junior Development Pathway - and one is Portishead!

The children can play for fun, play in tournaments, play against other junior teams, receive individual and group tuition and much more!

... and thanks to Portishead Town Council - it's FREE!!
