League Update

Portishead A & C Teams in Action

I've been away for a while so there's a lot to catch up with! So here's a summary of the November matches so far:

First of all on 6th November our A Team Clifton's high flying Juniors in what was anticipated to be a tough match. In the end, however, thanks to wins by Baptiste, Louis, Oliver, Ibrahim and Hugo we ran out comfortable winners 5-1!

Onn 12th November both the A and C teams were playing away in closely contested matches. The A Team were up against Downend and despite missing a couple of our top players came close, but eventually went down 3.5-2.5 with wins for Louis and Oliver and a draw by Tim:

The C team were massively outgraded by over 200 points on all boards, so it was a fantastic result for the team to take the match to the wire! Well done Ibrahim on top board to holsd the draw and a huge congratulations to Mauro for his win.

On 13th November the B team travelled away to take on the University. Again our players were massively outgraded and yet managed to draw thge match thanks to wins by Matt and the increasingly reliable Ibrahim!

Then, on 18th November the C team travelled to Yate. No surprises, according to our gradings we were out and underdogs once again but thanks to a solid win on top board by Frank and a dynamic attacking display by Matt on board two, we managed to draw the match!

So that's us up-to-date for now! On Monday, however, we have a double-header at home with the A team taking on South Bristol and the B team welcoming Clifton. With our players improving exponentially, it should be a fascinating night of chess!
